Before we begin this blog post about Nathan’s role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol Attack, we want to respond to a tweet Nathan made after our last post.
![](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/215171_9a1c7c4311604f00b55b98fab55bf578~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_980,h_661,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto/215171_9a1c7c4311604f00b55b98fab55bf578~mv2.jpg)
We also sent many others the link, including on Twitter. Nathan’s GoFundMe page is a fraud and people should know why. If his GoFundMe page isn’t a sham, why doesn’t he explain why it’s not? Most of his GoFundMe donations come from anonymous sources – should elected public figures be getting anonymous handouts? How do we know there is no ethics violation with these donations? We’ll have much more on this in a later post.
Nathan is not a victim. He is a victimizer and hater and is now on the receiving end of accountability. We have used his words and his actions to point out his dishonesty, hypocrisy, vitriol and many other attributes. As an elected public official, Nathan should expect nothing less. As a prolific poster on social media where he uses insults, punchlines and memes to put others down, he should be able to take his own medicine. It seems the Law of Attraction is strong with Nathan; he definitely attracts what he projects. Case in point; these are his only two replies to the above tweet (it looks like he “loved” them both):
![](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/215171_a9c6c22867734a13bab318090347778f~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_980,h_592,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto/215171_a9c6c22867734a13bab318090347778f~mv2.jpg)
In each of our blog postings, we state, “If we are wrong, mistaken, lack the correct facts or anything else that gets in the way of providing verifiable facts and honesty, please let us know and we will fix it.” In case he missed it in our previous posts, Nathan may consider this our asking questions directly and he can answer publicly any time. There are 3 alternatives:
Answer his constituent’s questions fully, honestly and publicly (he is a public figure)
Ignore his constituent’s questions and be subject to Term Limits in the next election
Resign from public office
Finally, we weren’t “trashing” Nathan. We were using his words and actions to point out his hypocrisy and dishonesty. Why doesn’t he embrace who he is? He didn’t dispute a single word we said or a single piece of proof we provided, he just complained – dishonestly. Nathan wanted to be relevant and now he is, just not the way he expected. This is what accountability looks like; as an elected public official there is much responsibility – it’s about time he accept that responsibility.
As we approach the one year anniversary of the “Stop the Steal” U.S. Capitol Attack on January 6, 2021, we want to look back at what Nathan has said and done regarding his involvement in the attack against our government. We will show with Nathan’s own words and actions that he has not been truthful and has many questions to answer to his constituent’s and investigators.
We’ve shown with our reporting on this site, Nathan is dishonest and is deceitful in much of what he says. He has little or no humility (the quality or state of not thinking you are better than other people, Merriam-Webster) and shows his selfishness (having or showing concern only for yourself and not for the needs or feelings of other people, Merriam-Webster.)
On our site where facts, honesty and kindness matter, we have shown multiple instances of Nathan’s dishonesty; there are many sources and references of Nathan’s own words and actions for you to check for yourself.
First, more definitions from Merriam-Webster:
Liar: A person who tells lies
Lie: To make an untrue statement with intent to deceive and to create a false or misleading impression
Remember as we previously pointed out, Nathan uses paltering to deceive his constituents and others by actively and consciously using truthful statements to mislead. It’s the same as outright lying, if not worse.
There are so many examples of Nathan’s words and actions we can use to highlight his hypocrisy, selfishness, dishonesty, lack of self-awareness, etc. but we’ll focus on a recent example.
Here’s a post Nathan made on December 14, 2021, responding to a comment (also shown) with an under-handed reference to physical violence and a deeply personal insult.
![](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/215171_2b2d74f717534919bc51c110aaa5ddf6~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_660,h_354,al_c,q_80,enc_auto/215171_2b2d74f717534919bc51c110aaa5ddf6~mv2.jpg)
No person – especially an elected public official – should ever insult another human being by calling them a “worthless piece of garbage.” There is NEVER a reason to do that. EVER! Nathan should be embarrassed and ashamed of himself for making such an appalling statement about another person. This is unbecoming of a city councilmember.
And this isn’t the only time he’s personally insulted people – just look at his social media posts – they are filled with this type of bitterness and vitriol.
Is this how Councilman Martin will respond to Shelby residents who disagree with him?
Is this the response from a self-proclaimed “Christian”?
Is this what “servant leadership” looks like?
Is this who we want representing Shelby’s 4th Ward?
How soon until Nathan turns on others just because they disagree with something he says?
What are we to believe?
The trouble with dishonest people – beside them being dishonest – is, once they lie, they are no longer trustworthy and everything they say after is put into question. With Nathan, his dishonesty seemingly knows no bounds.
As a proud “son of a preacher from the plains of Nebraska”, “… who holds the values of God … most dear” and someone who, “attends church at Berean Baptist in Mansfield, OH.”, Nathan has no idea what it means to be a “Christian”. His words and actions demonstrate anything but Christianity. On social media he posts he “covets your prayers”, but with the same social media account, he disparages, insults, mocks, threatens and more those who simply disagree with him.
Most of us learned early in life and elementary school how rude, impolite and mean it is to call other people names – Mr. Martin apparently missed that important life lesson. This tweet, used for illustration purposes, shows just how Mr. Martin tarnishes the public position he holds and casts serious doubts on his credibility and character. Shelby deserves better. Much better.
The pattern Nathan shows in social media post after social media post is how petty, how irrelevant, how disrespectful, how mean-spirited he is and how unbecoming his behavior is to Shelby City Council and the citizens of Shelby. Instead of responding with kindness, truthfulness and facts he insults and deflects away from the real issue – his behavior, words, choices and decisions.
Here’s what he said in an interview just a year ago and published on January 8, 2021: "My hope is we can [get] past the demonization of each other and find a way to offer each other a lot more grace. I have been guilty of that in the past ... we all have. We are on the precipice of a dangerous situation and we must find a way to heal as a country." (Emphasis added) (www.richlandsource.com/news/shelby-councilman-went-to-d-c-to-protest-for-election-reform/article_91708e6e-5127-11eb-95f6-c30fddacaa1f.html)
It seems Nathan has a very short memory. Or, does he think that showing respect and not threatening people doesn’t apply to him? Was he being dishonest or hypocritical? Or does he just not care?
Here’s a reminder of important life lesson: People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
When the citizens of Shelby’s 4th Ward elected and re-elected Nathan, we gave him our trust based on his words and actions. Now we have serious doubts about Nathan’s ability to effectively represent the citizens of Shelby’s 4th Ward. We see Nathan’s dishonesty, his deceitfulness in hiding the truth, his lack of character when interacting with others who disagree with him and more. We also wonder what else Nathan is hiding.
In an Oct 8, 2021 news article posted online, it was stated, “The 39-year-old conservative Republican, who said he went to the "Save America" rally to demonstrate for election reform…”
The following screen shot of a video posted to Nathan’s Instagram account (and C-SPAN) clearly shows he didn’t go to a “Save America” rally, he went to a “Stop the Steal” rally (or did he?) This rally occurred on November 14, 2020. He also clearly did not just “demonstrate for election reform”, he actively participated in stirring the crowd up by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. What else has Nathan been untruthful about and how can he be trusted? The entire video can be viewed here:

Wait! Are we the only ones confused?
In the October 8, 2021 news article above, Nathan was being asked about the January 6, 2021 Capitol Attack, but he answered as if he was asked about the November 14, 2020 rally where there is video evidence of his participation. Which was it? Nathan isn’t being forthcoming with the truth about these two rally’s Why? What is he hiding?
Let’s have a look at that salute.
The Training Circular No. 3-21.5. Headquarters Department of the Army Washington, D.C., 03 May 2021(Distribution Restriction: Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.), Drill and Ceremonies, Chapter 4, Hand Salute states the following about salutes: “4-13. …except touch the tip of the right forefinger to the forehead near and slightly to the right of the right eyebrow).”
As you can see, Nathan, despite listing his military service on campaign websites and literature and social media sites, doesn’t respect the military institution or those who have fought and died in uniform enough to get the basic salute right. The above screen shot shows Nathan at a “Stop the Steal” rally in Washington, D.C. – the entire video shows Nathan’s hand in the same wrong position – check it out for yourself.
Finally, here’s how Nathan described the video on his Instagram account: “What an honor to lead the Pledge of Allegiance for tens of thousands of patriots in DC. Blessed.” But he can’t get the salute right to actually honor the flag. www.instagram.com/nathanmartin25/.
We point out these embarrassments because Nathan has used his military experience in his social media posts and campaign literature as well as put people down and criticized those who disagree with him. We are pointing out Nathan’s inability to show respect to the very institution and people who serve(d) in that institution by getting the basic salute wrong. Glass houses.
Let’s look at where Nathan actually performed the Pledge of Allegiance. Notice the sign on the front of the podium:

Women for America First (WFAF) was formed in 2019 to protest against the impeachment of Donald Trump and later (April 2020) organized protests against stay-at-home orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On November 14, 2020, WFAF hosted an event in Washington, D.C. known as "March to Save America." as part of the “Stop the Steal” movement. Why didn’t Nathan tell us this? Why hide it? He was a part of it and proud enough of it to post the video to his social media account. Nowhere does Nathan mention Woman For America First.
The entire video can be viewed at www.c-span.org/video/?478128-1/rally-president-trump-washington-dc. Nathan’s recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance begins around the 9 minute mark. The following is a list of individuals speaking in the video:

As reported on October 8, 2021 here https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2021/10/8/2056861/-More-subpoenas-go-out-in-Jan-6-investigation-but-Trump-remains-the-center-of-the-story:
“(Ali) Alexander and (Nathan) Martin attempted to organize a “One Nation Under God” rally against “the election fraud in the swing states.” (emphasis added)
According to the subpoena, “Mr. Alexander explained it was the intention of Stop the Steal to direct earlier attendees of a rally on the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6 held by Women for America First and ‘sponsored’ by Stop the Steal to march at the conclusion of that rally to Lot 8 on the U.S. Capitol Grounds, which is the location for which the [U.S. Capitol Police] granted the permit for the ‘One Nation Under God,’ rally.” (emphasis added)
“So you can see why the committee would be interested in hearing from the organizers of the event planned to occur on the Capitol grounds after the earlier rally. Also, the committee’s letter to Alexander notes, “According to press reports, in the weeks before the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, you made repeated reference during Stop the Steal-sponsored events to the possible use of violence to achieve the organization’s goals and claimed to have been in communication with the White House and members of Congress regarding events planned to coincide with the certification of the 2020 election results.” (emphasis added)
Here’s a twitter exchange Nathan participated in where he said, “I helped arrange travel.”

A detailed article with copies of rally permits can be found here (including Nathan’s): www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonleopold/the-capitol-police-said-jan-6-unrest-on-capitol-grounds
Here are some critical quotes from articles listed:
“The permit application listed Nathan Martin of Shelby, Ohio, as a representative of One Nation Under God. According to the documents, a Capitol Police officer spoke with him on Dec. 28, 2020. The officer’s notes suggest that Martin was not forthcoming about the group’s plans.” (Emphasis added) Source: www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonleopold/the-capitol-police-said-jan-6-unrest-on-capitol-grounds
“I inquired if he has any additional information he could give me for the event. Mr. Martin said there are a few events that they have going on and he does not know which one I was referring,” the officer wrote. “When I asked about the ‘few events’, he stated that the events were in the hotels.” (Emphasis added) Source: www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonleopold/the-capitol-police-said-jan-6-unrest-on-capitol-grounds
“Martin, an Iraq War veteran who serves on his local city council, directed the officer to speak with Stephen Brown, a sound and lighting technician who was listed as a “spokesperson,” because Martin said he “only deals with the logistics and the hotel bookings for the event.” (Emphasis added) Source: www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonleopold/the-capitol-police-said-jan-6-unrest-on-capitol-grounds
“Brown, according to the officer’s notes, said he was “shocked” Martin would say that “because he is in daily communication with Mr. Martin for information regarding the event. He does not understand why he would say that or not give me the information I requested.” (Emphasis added) Source: www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonleopold/the-capitol-police-said-jan-6-unrest-on-capitol-grounds
“Brown, who did not respond to emails and phone calls requesting comment, told the officer Martin “is associated with Stop the Steal and travels with Ali Alexander.” Martin “does not seem to have an official title but he deals with the daily operations to include hotel books and car rentals.” (Emphasis added) Source: www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonleopold/the-capitol-police-said-jan-6-unrest-on-capitol-grounds
“In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Martin acknowledged his affiliation with the two groups but said he could not explain what One Nation Under God’s mission was, how it was formed, and for what purpose. He said he had not seen the permit, could not explain why his name was on it, and was unaware that the demonstration had been capped at 50 people.” (Emphasis added) Source: www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonleopold/the-capitol-police-said-jan-6-unrest-on-capitol-grounds
Remember how Nathan posted a video of himself leading the Pledge of Allegiance to a crowd in Washington, D.C.? And how this video listed the event as, “Stop the Steal” but actually it was a Woman For America First (WFAF) event? Which is it? Did he book hotels and rental cars or did he participate as a video of the event shows? Why is Nathan being untruthful about his actions on November 14, 2020 and January 6, 2021? Why doesn’t he make it clear what his role in both events was?
From the above Buzz Feed article listing notes from a Capitol police official:
“One Nation Under God is not an organization and does not maintain social media accounts or webpages per the spokesperson,” the officer wrote in an intelligence assessment.”
“It appears that the Stop the Steal and the One Nation Under God is one in the same due to the similarities and affiliation with Ali Alexander.”
Source: www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonleopold/the-capitol-police-said-jan-6-unrest-on-capitol-grounds
Nathan wants us to believe he is smarter than a Capitol Police officer writing an intelligence assessment and that he is to be believed over that official. An official that likely deals with multiple threats to our Capitol at a time with protesters and others from around the country and world much more sophisticated and smarter than Nathan.
There seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes here that shows Nathan was either a seriously duped sucker or he isn’t telling the truth about. It seems clear Nathan did more than “arrange travel” and “demonstrate for election reform” as he states.
As Nathan’s constituents, we need to know how our elected officials conduct themselves in public. The American public needs to know as well because Nathan was part of the January 6, 2021 attack on our Capitol and government. Nathan needs to be responsible and be accountable for his words and actions.
Given all that was going on the days and weeks leading up to January 6, 2021 and his close associate Ali Alexander near constant posting to social media, how could Nathan NOT know what was going on and NOT be a part of it – or at least if he wasn’t, demand his name be removed since he now doesn’t know how his name got on the permit application. Don’t forget, he was in Washington D.C. with Ali Alexander on November 14, 2020 – just weeks before the January 6, 2021 Attack. Were they planning for January 6th then? Who else was involved? Where did the planning and travel money come from? Why wait until after he was subpoenaed before trying to clear his name and set the record straight? Also, there is a lot of information we’ve discovered that Nathan hasn’t himself mentioned. Why? What is he hiding and when will the other shoe drop? When will Nathan take responsibility for his words and actions?
Nathan’s credibility is further strained when, just two days after the November 14, 2020 rally in Washington where Nathan substituted for Ali Alexander, in an interviewed by Talk Louisiana NPR station. Details can be found here:
Monday November 16th: Nathan Martin, Lamar White, Bill Rau
www.wrkf.org/show/talk-louisiana/2020-11-16/monday-november-16th-nathan-martin-lamar-white-bill-rau
Why would a low level person (Nathan) who just handled “hotel and car rental reservations” be trusted by the Leader of Stop the Steal (Ali) to substitute for them for an interview on a local NPR station? At no time during the interview did Nathan correct anything the host stated about his role in Stop the Steal. Listen for yourself at the above link.
A major problem with lying (besides the lies themselves) most of us learned as children is you can never keep them straight and the more you lie, the more lies you tell to cover up the original lie. As Councilman Martin’s constituent’s, we need to know the truth and we need to hear it directly from Councilman Martin.
Remember the earlier tweet above wherein Nathan stated, “Never lied once.”? Do you think he is believable?
It might be time for Nathan to “Get a grip” on reality, honesty and decency. There is much more to his hypocrisy and dishonesty and we’ll be exploring that and more in the coming months.
In the meantime, as we’ve said from our first post, if we are wrong, mistaken, lack the correct facts or anything else that gets in the way of providing verifiable facts and honesty, please let us know and we will fix it right away.
